Description

Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid with a special composition as it provides two nitrogenous chains (both an amino and an amide group). It is the most common amino acid in the blood and the striated muscle, being involved in multiple biochemical processes:

1. It is a primary energy source, donating hydrocarbon chains, especially to muscles, lymphocytes, kidney and intestinal epithelial cells.

2. It also contributes as a primary substrate in the liver gluconeogenesis, which in turn forms part of the urea cycle.

3. The creation of ammonium helps to synthesise other amino acids, such as alanine and aspartate, through transamination reactions in the muscles, intestine and liver.

4. The deamination of glutamate generates nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) dehydrogenase, which is involved in the regeneration of glutathione.

5. Together with alanine, it is responsible for transferring nitrogen to the kidney.

It is an essential amino acid for many important functions of different organs and parts of the body; particularly the immune system and the intestine. However, during catabolic states, such as surgical infections, trauma, physical exercise, and other states of metabolic acidosis, the need for it is greatly increased and its own homoeostasis is altered. This leads to levels of glutamine being very depleted.

During prolonged and/or high-intensity exercise, the levels of glutamine in the blood are greatly increased, which leads to subsequent drops during the recovery period. It often takes several hours or even days to recover the previous levels, which can result in the so-called overtraining syndrome.

GLUTAMIN ZINC provide L-Glutamine (Kyowa Quality^®), as well as zinc, a micronutrient associated with many functions. Among others, it helps to boost the immune system and protects cells against oxidation.

Furthermore, the addition of vitamin B6 to the formula contributes to the normal metabolism of the proteins and glycogen.
